I think Michelle is amazing, but it makes me so sad that she’s pulling this crap and putting her kids in the national spotlight. THAT does not a good role model make.

Yep. There’s the whole thing of putting our first ladies on pedestals and honing in on their smallest, most human errors, and then there’s this: something that a mother at any level of visibility should avoid. Kids don’t need diets. A healthy diet you can have, not a diet you can be on. Funny how those words make all the difference.

Chips.

Shawn and I are constantly on the look out for delicious, lower-fat/sodium/cholesterol alternatives to our favorite foods.

We love kettle-cooked potato chips. I love them, I should say. Always have preferred them over, say, Ruffles or Lays.

He used to get Grandma Utz, but they were a special occasion treat, only to be savored once in a great while because they are high in fat and even higher in sodium. It’s just not good for your body or your longevity. We’ve always desired to be together for as long as we can, to love one another until the very last minute, and high fat, high sodium foods jeopardizes that.

So we kept looking. I tried Lays. They just weren’t as tasty. Then Utz came out with Natural (regular chips aren’t natural?) 40% reduced fat kettle cooked chips that were good. I didn’t think they had enough salt, but I like a lot of salt on my chips. Frankly, I like a lot of salt on everything.

Then, at last, we found Cape Cod 40% reduced fat kettle cooked chips. They’re brilliant! They have less fat and sodium than Utz, but they’re magically saltier! They also leave the shells on the potatoes when they’re cut, so sometimes you get a burst of sweetness. That’s the dirt you taste. It’s delicious.

For now we’re satisfied with having chips as a treat, but I’d really like to find a fat-free brand, though I’m not sure that’s a possibility at this time.
